The city of Capitola, surrounded by cliffs and set amidst the sandy shore of the Pacific Ocean, began as an early 20th century beach camping resort. Originally, sixty cottages were built in what is now Capitola Village, to bring additional tourists to Capitola Beach. Today, Capitola is popular with year-round visitors and the village is alive with waterfront restaurants, craft galleries, boutiques and wine tasting rooms. Each year, Capitola hosts the Begonia Festival on Labor Day weekend and the Annual Capitola Art & Wine Festival each fall brings over 170 artists and 10 wineries. A mid-week summer music series draws hundreds of locals out to dance on the beach promenade. Capitola, CA is home to several popular beaches, including New Brighton Beach & Capitola Beach. Beautiful Capitola beach front houses
and hotels line the cliffs above it's Monterey Bay coastline, making it a popular at sunset destination for tourists and residents.
